I sometimes get a really bad neck from looking down at a screen all day so I gots to thinking about a more ergonomic way to view a computer display/screen.
The last place I worked at I stuck a few yellow pages under the display to get it upto eye level and that really made a lot of difference.
So I thought that some type of display glasses (the ones in VR parlours comes to mind) where you would pretty much be able to wear your screen.
It turns out that there are some available, but they only run at a res around 800×600 (I’d really be needing something around 1280×1024 at a minimum), and I can imagine they wouldn’t have a great contrast/dynamic range – important for me when working with images.
A few places seem to offer something – here’s one:
I got a few emails back from different places and they all seem to say the same thing – the technology isn’t there yet – and they say also that this technology is aimed more at Military and scientific applications.
Oh well, maybe one day!
More of a note for myself than anything – a few cool Lightwave sites
I came across this new renderer that can be used for Lightwave
oh yeah, have received Lightwave v8 in the post the other day – havent upgraded to v8.2.1 yet cause am only on a modem. Running LW on my girlfriend’s iMac g4 1.25ghz – not too bad – i put a 512mb stick in it the other day and is running quite well, until i try to wake it from sleep and i am stuck with a black screen! ahh!
might be heading to Montreal soon – nothing definite
in my efforts to get back into the 3d world, i came across this renderer for Lightwave. I have yet to use it, but will see when i get my new Gear….
yeah, i am thinking of getting one of the new Powerbooks and sticking the 128MB ATI card into it. One thing I want to get back into is 3d. Lightwave and other apps. I also want to buy a copy of an app called PFHoe – PFTrack’s littlest brother. Motion tracking in 3d, on a very simplified scale. There is a demo for OSX.
Only a few hours to go here in Brisbane……Ahhh, render is done…
Well just as I thought i was on my way to Sydney to spend a week or 2 hanging out with my girly, I was called to head up to the Gold Coast to work on “House of Wax” at Photon for a few days. They are finishing up the show here so I am here just to pick up a few shots that are around. Will be finished up on the weekend, and will head back to Sydney before heading up to Byron in a week.
We dont have a tent sorted out yet! I was going to buy a cool MacPac tent, but they are around $800AUD. might just get a cheapo kmart special
Lisa and I went into the Gold Coast CBD last night to have some dinner and a bit of a sticky beak. We met a guy from Christchurch who reckoned he was here to celebrate his uncle’s 50th, but had decided to “go out on the town” with is fake ID. I got busted with a fake ID in the gold coast when I was 17. His “ID” was pretty crappy (mine was heaps cooler!!!), and I reckon he’s gonna find himself with a cool $250 fine – at least that’s what mine was back ‘in the day’.
Got forwarded this today. Crazy record breakers on the gold coast –
A guy I am working with at the moment told me today he’s heading to Rarotonga and the Cook Islands for a break after Hercules. I said “But aint’s it hurricaning there?” and he said “well there’s been 4 hurricanes this month, there can’t possibility be 5!”. So good luck to Rudy I say!
starting to get lumanation.com together in my spare moments.
blogger.com seems really cool – its what i am using for this news section of my homepage, and what is being used for the lumanation.com news too.
Not much to report except i am working and its a sunday – but have 1 week to go.
1 week to go in sunny Auckland, the job is getting a little faster paced, and i am getting a little “home” sick. “home’ – because i actually dont physically have a home anywhere. “home’ – sydney (where my girly is and many of my friends are).
Lisa has been tossing up the idea of moving to Los Angeles, but I have come up with a much cooler idea (yeah right!) of going to the UK. So lets see where that takes us!
Me/work – not sure whats up ahead. Photon has some mroe work coming up. But was thinking of doing something a little different and going fruit picking in Queensland (Australia) – something I haven’t done before and really dont know how hard it would be – but i think it would be good to be outside for a change and get a bit of sun – rather than the amazing computer screen tan i have going!
The weekend ahead has installed for me ……. work! woohoo! but 1 week to go so I better put the effort in. Still a lot to do but maybe i am starting to see a little light at the end of the tunnel.
I just realised i just typed this blog without looking at the keyboard (my typing skills suck!).
Have a glorious weekend!
Hey hey hey!!!
I havent posted for quite some time for some many reasons/excuses. Mainly I have been moving around the south east asia quite a bit in the past few months. Well not really. I went to Hong Kong and Malaysia (Borneo) over xmas/NYE, and then went back to Sydney for 2 weeks and then went to New Zealand (Auckland) for a gig on Hallmark/HBO’s telemovie “Hercules” – being posted at Photon VFX New Zealand. It’s been a great experience so far.
Oh yeah, I left Emerald City Design at the end of 2004 in seek of something new and try to get around the globe as much as I can before I get too old and poor to do so!
I have put up quite a few photos from the passed few months
Since i’ve been in NZ I have managed to escape the metropolis and make our way out of town. “Our?” you ask?? – yes. Lisa (my girly) made a surprise visit to the Photon office and hung about for 10 days – ’twas magic. We went down to Rotorua and checked boiling mud and did a spot of white water rafting (grade 5).
I have about 1-2weeks left on this gig at Photon, after that I am off to Sydney then to Byron Bay to checkout Bluesfest!
I’ve had a cool few days. We finished the music video Delta Goodrem’s track “Mistaken Identity” we were working on Emerald. 190+ shots comped in about 4 days. pretty good effort i think. Also Emerald’s website has been updated and is so much better! check it out.
We got drunk at lunch on friday. 6 pints of Kilkenny later i was with Eric, Chris G and Lindsay at another pub in Surrey Hills, the Cricketer’s Arms. I was very ON FIRE at this point and I made it my duty to find appropriate chicks for my single mates! I discovered the best way to meet people. I got a sketch book from work and went up to groups of people and said “hey guys, can anyone here draw me a picture of someone being invited to a 3some?!” (i have no idea where that idea came from – i think someone must have suggested it!) People loved it! Anyway, that idea took me through the night until 4.30am (quite an achievement considering i normally crash out at 11pm or so!). By the end of the night I got a french chick talking to Hugh and he was loving it! But he didn’t get her phone number though! I bumped into my friend Scott too, it was good to see him.
I wont be going on a bender for while! It was so much fun meeting all these cool people that night and trying to get people hooked up!
I spent yesterday talking to the grass and in bed, but managed to get over to James’s BBQ near mosman – we played cricket. I had some champagne and decided i am not drinking for a while!
Some photos from the day at James and Nicola’s place
Also some more photos from the world trip (Czeck Republic):
