Extremely Cool

1 week of counting sheep left

Thu 3, March 2005

1 week to go in sunny Auckland, the job is getting a little faster paced, and i am getting a little “home” sick. “home’ – because i actually dont physically have a home anywhere. “home’ – sydney (where my girly is and many of my friends are).

Lisa has been tossing up the idea of moving to Los Angeles, but I have come up with a much cooler idea (yeah right!) of going to the UK. So lets see where that takes us!

Me/work – not sure whats up ahead. Photon has some mroe work coming up. But was thinking of doing something a little different and going fruit picking in Queensland (Australia) – something I haven’t done before and really dont know how hard it would be – but i think it would be good to be outside for a change and get a bit of sun – rather than the amazing computer screen tan i have going!

The weekend ahead has installed for me ……. work! woohoo! but 1 week to go so I better put the effort in. Still a lot to do but maybe i am starting to see a little light at the end of the tunnel.

I just realised i just typed this blog without looking at the keyboard (my typing skills suck!).

Have a glorious weekend!

2005 – What a ride so far!

Tue 1, March 2005

Hey hey hey!!!

I havent posted for quite some time for some many reasons/excuses. Mainly I have been moving around the south east asia quite a bit in the past few months. Well not really. I went to Hong Kong and Malaysia (Borneo) over xmas/NYE, and then went back to Sydney for 2 weeks and then went to New Zealand (Auckland) for a gig on Hallmark/HBO’s telemovie “Hercules” – being posted at Photon VFX New Zealand. It’s been a great experience so far.

Oh yeah, I left Emerald City Design at the end of 2004 in seek of something new and try to get around the globe as much as I can before I get too old and poor to do so!

I have put up quite a few photos from the passed few months

Since i’ve been in NZ I have managed to escape the metropolis and make our way out of town. “Our?” you ask?? – yes. Lisa (my girly) made a surprise visit to the Photon office and hung about for 10 days – ’twas magic. We went down to Rotorua and checked boiling mud and did a spot of white water rafting (grade 5).

I have about 1-2weeks left on this gig at Photon, after that I am off to Sydney then to Byron Bay to checkout Bluesfest!

2004 near end…

Sun 12, December 2004

I’ve had a cool few days. We finished the music video Delta Goodrem’s track “Mistaken Identity” we were working on Emerald. 190+ shots comped in about 4 days. pretty good effort i think. Also Emerald’s website has been updated and is so much better! check it out.

We got drunk at lunch on friday. 6 pints of Kilkenny later i was with Eric, Chris G and Lindsay at another pub in Surrey Hills, the Cricketer’s Arms. I was very ON FIRE at this point and I made it my duty to find appropriate chicks for my single mates! I discovered the best way to meet people. I got a sketch book from work and went up to groups of people and said “hey guys, can anyone here draw me a picture of someone being invited to a 3some?!” (i have no idea where that idea came from – i think someone must have suggested it!) People loved it! Anyway, that idea took me through the night until 4.30am (quite an achievement considering i normally crash out at 11pm or so!). By the end of the night I got a french chick talking to Hugh and he was loving it! But he didn’t get her phone number though! I bumped into my friend Scott too, it was good to see him.

I wont be going on a bender for while! It was so much fun meeting all these cool people that night and trying to get people hooked up!

I spent yesterday talking to the grass and in bed, but managed to get over to James’s BBQ near mosman – we played cricket. I had some champagne and decided i am not drinking for a while!

Some photos from the day at James and Nicola’s place

Also some more photos from the world trip (Czeck Republic):

Wed 8, December 2004

My beautiful girlfriend has gone on a trip with her folks to Vietnam. Ahhh! I miss her a lot but i hope she has fun!

I had conformation that I’ll be working in New Zealand for 2 months. Not sure what the project is yet (and most likely won’t be able to say)

I put some new photos up from Lisa and my world trip.

A new member in the family – Weber BabyQ

Mon 29, November 2004

Back at work after a pretty cruisy & boozy weekend. Friday night Hugh, Eric and I went to a couple of cool pubs around Surrey Hills – The Cricketer’s Arms, The Rose and a Clock Hotel. A cool boys night out.

Saturday I met up with Lisa and our good friend Tracy down at The Rocks and made our way to a cool Pub called The Australian – it has heaps of Australian beers, a really cool one called Scharers Lager. Later Liam, Hugh, Candice and Nicola quickly joined us down at The Orient (the Rocks) for a few more relaxo drinks. Lisa and I walked home (about an hour from The Rocks to Bondi). That was excellent. She is SO great!!!

One of my flatmates, Hugh, and I invested in a Weber Baby Q barbeque and got a few people around to road test it. Everyone was quite impressed. The BBQ guy at Barbeques Galore assured us it was the best buy for the price range we were looking at. I think Lisa really had a good time shopping for a BBQ with us, and also was totally rivetted when I asked if she’d like to stay at my house for a few hours and help me clean it. Yeah, I know how to entertain.

Tonight a few of us are going to go checkout the Charles Sturt University (BA) Television Production 3rd year production screenings down in Martin Place at a place called GPO (I think). Hopefully w ecan see some good work.

The Great Bangkok Sapphire Scam of October

Thu 25, November 2004

Trying to get people together to throw some ideas around and finally get something happening for the summer. I’m thinking that I might make an effort to get down to Fall’s Festival over New Year’s but nothing concrete yet.

Also, I’d really like to get lumanation.com happening and get people’s work up there and really get some sort of “artist’s” cooperative type thang. Get some 3D going and finally get around to getting some of the little ideas i’ve had into action.

I didn’t mention in my group emails on my trip about what i have named “the BSS” (Bangkok Sapphire Scam) . Basically I got scammed into buying a sapphire ring for about $1500 AUD. Stupid I know. But we were promised by an American guy – Brad Hamilton from Silicon Valley – that we would be able to sell it in New York for about 3 times the price. He claimed that he’s been doing it for the past 4 years and it pays for his holiday every trip. Anyway it was a load of crap. It’s worth about 1/3 of what I paid for it. Be careful ignorant traveller’s out there like me.

NY

Fri 12, November 2004

I’m sitting at the Laundercenter laundromatte on the corner of 8th Ave and 55th st on Manhatten island in New York City! Once again the dirty washing has caught up with us. It was either pay $2USD here for the whole load, or $10USD/shirt at our hotel (Central Park hotel)!!!!!!!! Fark!!!
So what’s news you may wonder, or may not, but I’ll tell you anyway. To make it more interesting I’ll start from now and work backwards in time.
Yesterday we cruised down to the CBS studios on Broadway at the Ed Sullivan theatre (Lisa says it’s where the Beatles did their first American tour [Lisa pronounces it torr or tore – such a pom!]. We got free tickets to the David Letterman  show, and it recorded at 5.30pm – Pierce Brosnan was the special guest, as well as some pommie chef chick and an opera lady.
Lisa and I thgink Pierce Brosnan is a bit of a wanker and seemed very uncomfortable infront of camera – he needed to relax a little and stop trying to be Mr Bond.
They did a big pan shot of the crowd and we are in there somewhere – watch closely and you’ll see a 2m guy up the back left with really bad hair – that’ll be me…or Lisa.
We cruised up to the top of the Empire State building – it was pretty cool, but a convoluted path to get there – so many roped of aisles and baggage scans and things to control everyone and make sure we were gonna put a bomb up the ass of ny. Nice view, but was missing the world trade centres – i’m imagining it would have really made it a cool skyline.
We went through times square a few times yesterday too and didn’t really realise it – it’s quite small. There are homeless homies in the middle of times square selling opera tickets – we “donated” $1USD for a opera time table with tickets prices on it – these guys are so good at making you buy stuff. I guess it’s in there eculture.
The flight to NY was ok, the security check from Frankfurt Germany to NY was the msot intense I’ve had – a major grope and also had to take my shoes of and get a foot massage from security – to check for weapons of mass destruction of coarse – lucky i had clean socks on or they might have thought I was trying to gas them.
Before here we were in Amsterdam, i’ve been there twice before so I thought I was a bit of an old hand at it, but i soon realised i had forgot most of it, even the dutch i had become quite fluent at. Lots of Poms there – they get cheap tickets for 25 pounds and fly over for a big weekend and get wasted. Polly met up with us and it was so good to see her! She showed us a bunch of her photos from her trip to South America – very amazing! We got wasted of a bottle of Vodka and enjoyed the hangovers the next day at the Rijks Museum and the sex museum. Lisa was very ill.
I can’t remember what was before this except that we were in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Czech Republic before that – it was a whole bunch of amazing experiences that would take a few more emails and needs the photos to at least try to show it.
Any ways NY is a lot more of a Nicer place than i asssumed it to be – people here are pretty easy to talk to and aren’t the wankers I was dreading.
Lisa’s doco screens in 2 nights at the Village Cinema somehwere in NY. TOnight is the opening of the festival and a “Networking” thing apparently – I’ll bring my gigabit cable – what a wanker!!!
hope your having fun!  AT

Typing on a terrible pc in a inet cafe on a “ADSL” connection – so damn slow! – any typos i’m blaiming the keyboard)
hey everyone!
just a quick hello to let who ever is concerned know what i’m upto!
The travel story so far…
I THINK I’M DREAMING
LIsa and I flew outof sydney on the 20th anda landed in Bangkok at about 11pm that night. we caughta taxi into the city to our hotel “The Elegance Suite”. Forgot to menuiton that we saw an amazing lighting storm on the flightr over – one of the most coolest things i have ever seen!
On the way there our taxi ran out of LPG, so we got to see some of the “real” life the city – a petrol station.
Got up the next day and went for a swim on the pool on the roof. Cool view of the city (pretty damn smoggy though).
Got a taxi to the railway station with the intention of gettinga train up tho Chang Mai – but all trains were full and buses too. Instead made a decision to go to Koh Samui – no idea what to expect except beach and cocktails ! that came true!
(Still in bangkok) got a taxi to the golden palace but got off at the wrong stop, and met a teacher from a local school who told us that it was Budha’s birthday, and that all Tuk Tuk (motorbike with a roof and seats in the back) travel was paid for by the government that day – the tuk tuk drivers had to pick up gas stamps at the place3s they took people on that day. SO we checked out a few temples and a jewelary store, and a tailor – not that rivetting, but burning aropund in a tuk tuk is pretty awesome fun.
Got out to the airport and flew to Koh Samui. The whole airport in koh samui is open air (no walls) – very tropical and cool.
Lots of fat foreign bastards here (FFBs i call them), and i just  realised i am one of them!!!
SOme aussie wankers arrived at our place last night – arrogant drunk bastards! embarrasing
Went on a flying fox through jungle canopy the other day – yes we are quite adventurous – the best part was sitting in the back of the truck there – caining down the road (exagerated 100 km/h!). very cool
Lisa and i have spent most nights laying on beach charis or low tables and drinking happy hour cocktails – about $2-$3 each. Had lobster the other night – very tasty. All wonderful candlelit experiences! TOTALLY AMAZING.
Lots of poor people and little kids hawking fruits and jewelarry on the beach and streets.
Gonna catch a elephant ride and go kayaking on the ocean tomorrow – might go geta body massage again and suck on a Pina Colada!
Gotta enjoy thsi heat because we are off to prague in a few days
Lot of luvin’! AT
